Custom 12 inch DC Comics Figures

Here is the collection of custom made DC Comics figures I have made over the years.

Cyborg
(See "The Custom Process" for a more detailed
look at Cyborg)
Catwoman
Deadshot
Black Manta
Mr. Freeze
Gorilla Grodd

As you look through this gallery, I thought it would be cool to note that I used the same basic figure for most of these characters: This 12 inch Flash figure (seen below). Flash had a very basic costume, so I was able to sculpt just about any new costume over the figure and change the head/face to create the new character. I must have bought over 30 of these basic flash figures in order to use him for each of these custom figures.

If you look closely at some of these guys, you can see how I changed the flash's costume to make the new figures. Luckily, a lot of these characters had masks and boots just like the flash, so it was easier to make the transformation.

Custom 12 inch Marvel Comics Figures

Here's a collection of all of my Marvel Comics custom 12 inch figures I have made so far.
The female characters in this section were all made using this jean gray figure produced by the toy company Hasbro.

Original figure I used as a "base" figure for the female characters such as Spiderwoman (see below)

Spiderwoman
For spiderwoman, she was a fairly straightforward custom. I added lining to her costume to layout the black/yellow designs, modified her eyes and then painted her new costume.

Captain Marvel
Ms. Marvel

Black Widow
Psylocke

Storm
Bishop
Super Skrull

Black Cat
Angel
U.S Agent

Juggernaut

For some of the larger custom figures, I used a hulk figure as a "base" to make the character.
Original Hulk figure made by the company Toybiz.
For figures such as The Thing, Terrax, Red Hulk, and Thanos, I used this Hulk figure to start off the conversion. (see below)

The Thing

Red Hulk
This Red Hulk, for example, was a straight repaint of the green hulk character. The only added detail I gave the figure was slightly different hair and an additional rip on the knee of his pants. The paintjob is what really made this figure stand out, with dynamic shading on his red skin.

Terrax

Black Panther

Thanos

Paintings

Here are a few of my canvas paintings. I love working on landscapes and scenery. I was very inspired by Bob Ross when I was younger and I have created a lot of landscapes over the years. Theses are my most recent landscapes: the first one os Machu Picchu from Peru and the second is a winter landscape I finished a little over a year ago.

Winter Landscape

The artist Bob Ross has been a big inspiration for me over the years, and I have been told several times that some of my landscape work is reminiscent of his work, which is a great feeling for me because of my love and respect for the man's art.

And this is one of my all time favorite pieces. It is a painting of Katy Perry I finished about 2 years ago. I had to create a project in the artistic style of Chuck Close, using boxes/small images to create a larger image. I was very happy with how she came out and I would definitely like to make another painting in this style one day.

Here's a Flower painting I made last year. It is a 36x36 canvas so this piece is huge!

This is another Acrylic on canvas painting that I created in my Art Workshop class last year.
The idea was to pick a flower and zoom in on a certain section in order to have an image that was almost abstract because of how close up it was. The flower I chose to paint was originally an interesting looking flower so I zoomed in on the corner of the picture and decided to make a somewhat impressionistic style painting. This piece was a lot of fun to work on and gave me a chance to experiment with colors more, and deal with different shades of red and yellow.

Drawings

Here are a few of my more recent drawings. I've been mostly focused on custom figures but I also love drawing and painting on canvas. I hope you enjoy!

This is my most recent self portrait I drew last year. It is prismacolor color pencils on paper and it is about 18x24 inches.

Here's a sketch of Captain Mal Reynolds (played by Nathan Filion) from the T.V. Show Firefly.

Portraits are a lot of fun but also very challenging so I was glad with how my Captain Mal came out. I mostly focused on the face for this piece but his hand was also a lot of fun to work on especially with the texture of his glove.

Here are a few superhero drawings I have done recently.
Spiderman

Spiderman was a simple pencil on paper piece, and I really enjoyed how he turned out.
These next two drawings (Deadpool and Captain America) were done using Photoshop Elements and a drawing Tablet. I drew them with multiple layers and then printed out a copy to keep for myself. It's actually a good thing I printed out these two drawings, because shortly after, my computer crashed and I lost my Photoshop documents.
Deadpool

Captain America has always been one of my favorite heroes and I really love the artwork of Ed McGuinness. This Captain America drawing was based off an Ed McGuinness piece from a Cap comic and I really love how bulky the character is in this picture. McGuinness has a great style that looks amazing in comics so I was glad I could create a piece that was reminiscent of his work.
Captain America
Batman was a lot of fun to draw. This is a 16x20 piece made using pencil, prismacolor pencils and a black sharpie marker for the really dark shadows and also to give the piece a more dynamic look.
